21 Jesus continued, “Does anyone ever bring in a lamp and put it under a bowl or under the bed? Doesn't he put it on the lampstand? 22 Whatever is hidden away will be brought out into the open, and whatever is covered up will be uncovered. 23 Listen, then, if you have ears!”

24 He also said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear! The same rules you use to judge others will be used by God to judge you — but with even greater severity. 25 Those who have something will be given more, and those who have nothing will have taken away from them even the little they have.”

We love to judge others! It seems to be the particular temptation of religious people and others who consider themselves righteous. Yet Jesus clearly and frequently warns us of this temptation. He is equally clear about the consequences - a judgemental attitude, sooner or later, will rebound on oneself.

To let go of judgementalism, then, is to open oneself up to the experience of 'the Kingdom' - to compassion, wisdom and, ultimately, joy! It is to be a beacon of light, like 'a lamp on a lampstand'.

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Release in us wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement for your work in which we share.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
