The disciples told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised Jesus at the breaking of bread.
They were still talking about all this when Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you!’ In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said, ‘Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your hearts? Look at my hands and feet; yes, it is I indeed. Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.’ And as he said this he showed them his hands and feet. Their joy was so great that they still could not believe it, and they stood there dumbfounded; so he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ And they offered him a piece of grilled fish, which he took and ate before their eyes.
Then he told them, ‘This is what I meant when I said, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms has to be fulfilled.’ He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘So you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.’

[I]f your faith is firm and you have a personal relationship with Jesus, then you have experienced the same Christ who joined the two discouraged disciples on the road to Emmaus, instructed them in the Scriptures, and broke bread with them. You have experienced the same Christ who in Jerusalem showed the doubting disciples his hands and his feet, ate a piece of broiled fish in their presence, and told them what the Scriptures had to say about his suffering and dying, about repentance and forgiveness to be proclaimed in his name to all the world. You experience him when you too gather together in his name, when you too listen to him unfolding God’s Word to you, when you too break bread with him and share his cup.

Your task and mine, our vocation in virtue of our baptism, is not significantly different from that of Jesus’ early disciples. Proclaim the risen Jesus, bear witness to him, tell the world what you have experienced! At times with our lips, more frequently by our lives. But how? . . .
[T]ake [your] personal love for Jesus and share it. Not only with those you like or who like you. Touch it to the child [disabled] or the girl abused, the adolescent addicted or the AIDS-afflicted, the slow to learn or the swift to hate . . . the lonely and the unloved, yes, the racist and the bigot. Not all at once, please! But, as Mother Teresa said when asked by a DC politician how she expected to feed the hundreds of hungry in Washington, “One at a time.”
