29 The next day, he saw Jesus coming towards him and said, 'Look, there is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.

30 It was of him that I said, "Behind me comes one who has passed ahead of me because he existed before me."

31 I did not know him myself, and yet my purpose in coming to baptise with water was so that he might be revealed to Israel.'

32 And John declared, 'I saw the Spirit come down on him like a dove from heaven and rest on him.

33 I did not know him myself, but he who sent me to baptise with water had said to me, "The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and rest is the one who is to baptise with the Holy Spirit."

34 I have seen and I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.'

I stand at the altar knowing that God is willing again to satisfy the most complicated hungers and restore the most disparate hearts including my own.

We Still Proclaim.

The Real Presence of Christ Jesus rests in my hands at Mass. Just before offering communion; I humbly lift up the Body and Blood of Christ from the altar and verbally point the assembly’s attention to what we will receive and what we all become.

Breathing deeply into these ancient words, I pray again, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world . . . ” I voice the assertion that John the Baptist uttered to proclaim repentance and forgiveness. John spent his life pointing in the direction of Jesus, and my heart aches to imitate such a messenger’s life.

I gaze past the sacred bread and wine, knowing what love the Father has bestowed on those before me, all of us children of God. I am not aware of every hunger or pain before my eyes, but I see the widower who watched his wife waste away from cancer. I know the father who longs to communicate with a daughter lost to the effects of alcoholism. I stand at the altar knowing that God is willing again to satisfy the most complicated hungers and restore the most disparate hearts, including my own.
We proclaim the Most Holy Name of Jesus in every Eucharist. We still echo John’s testimony that in and through us, God is creating hope for all people on earth. in this Christmas season, our bodies partake in the Incarnation celebrated in the Eucharist, where God forgives the sins of the world.

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
