21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and began to teach.

22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them with authority.

23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,

24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.'

25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'

26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.

27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it all meant, saying, 'Here is a teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'

28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.

Made Perfect through Suffering.

Jesus suffered death, he who “for a little while” was made “lower than the angels,” that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

Our Lord put these words into my mind, “You’re written in My hands and feet. See? I’ll never forget you. I’m happy I suffered these wounds for you. I’ll never get angry and leave you. I’ll always love you. So don’t be afraid. Don’t fear, even if the world seems to be against you. They just don’t understand you.

“You must know I’d be happy to suffer everything I’ve suffered—all over again—and just for you. I don’t want you separated from Me forever, no. Know this instead. Just as the priest takes a baby to the baptismal font and dips the baby in the holy water to wash away sin, so do I wash you in My priceless blood to erase every one of your sins.

“Remember—though I do sometimes take away your inner feelings of grace and you find you can’t pray or weep, don’t let yourself be afraid. Never fear. Instead, remember I’m a hidden God within you.”

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Release in us wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement for your work in which we share.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
