45 Many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what he did, believed in him,

46 but some of them went to the Pharisees to tell them what Jesus had done.

47 Then the chief priests and Pharisees called a meeting. 'Here is this man working all these signs,' they said, 'and what action are we taking?

48 If we let him go on in this way everybody will believe in him, and the Romans will come and suppress the Holy Place and our nation.'

49 One of them, Caiaphas, the high priest that year, said, 'You do not seem to have grasped the situation at all;

50 you fail to see that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people, rather than that the whole nation should perish.'

51 He did not speak in his own person, but as high priest of that year he was prophesying that Jesus was to die for the nation-

52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather together into one the scattered children of God.

53 From that day onwards they were determined to kill him.

54 So Jesus no longer went about openly among the Jews, but left the district for a town called Ephraim, in the country bordering on the desert, and stayed there with his disciples.

55 The Jewish Passover was drawing near, and many of the country people who had gone up to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves

56 were looking out for Jesus, saying to one another as they stood about in the Temple, 'What do you think? Will he come to the festival or not?'

What Love Unites.

I will make them one nation upon the land . . . never again shall they be divided.
Unity! Who would dare speak of it?
It is ineffable as God.
You feel it, see it, rejoice over it but . . . it is ineffable!
All enjoy its presence, all suffer its absence.
It is peace, joy, love, ardor, and the spirit of heroism,
of boundless generosity.
It is Jesus among us.

Only if we have the mark of unity among us can we really call ourselves Christians.
When unity among us becomes difficult, we must not break, but bend, until love makes the miracle of one heart and one soul.
Better what is less perfect, but in unity with our brothers and sisters, than what is more perfect, but in disunity with them, because perfection does not lie in ideas or in wisdom, but in charity.

Nothing is more organized than what love orders and nothing is more free than what love unites.
Whoever lives in God is one with everyone and with everything, yet distinct from them.
When two souls meet each other they are two Heavens that unite, which gives to the two souls joy, peace, serenity, light and ardor—as in the Trinity.
The more we are perfected in unity, the more we acquire the virtue of the other (“All that is yours is mine” cf. John 17:10), in such a way that we are all one, each the other, each Jesus.

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Release in us wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement for your work in which we share.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
