17 For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might be saved.

18 No one who believes in him will be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already, because that person does not believe in the Name of God's only Son.

19 And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness to the light because their deeds were evil.

20 And indeed, everybody who does wrong hates the light and avoids it, to prevent his actions from being shown up;

21 but whoever does the truth comes out into the light, so that what he is doing may plainly appear as done in God.'

Just as nothing is higher than God, nothing greater, nothing richer, nothing more perfect, so no love can be compared to the love of God.

So Loved.

God, it says, loved. Just as nothing is higher than God, nothing greater, nothing richer, nothing more perfect, so no love can be compared to the love of God. And clearly, even for the angels who are in the highest heavens, it is surely a great thing that God loves them. Therefore, you are all able to consider how great a thing it is that God loved the world.

But here Scripture does not call mountains and valleys the world; rather it calls people who are in the world the world [see John 17:11], because this world was created for their sake. Therefore, God—that power, that majesty, that sublimity—loved people. What sort of people? Listen to the apostle Paul: When we were still enemies, we were reconciled to God [see Rom 5:10]. And, When we were still sick, Christ died for the wicked [Rom 5:6]. Therefore, he loved his enemies, he loved the infirm, he loved the wicked. What will we give back to him for that love?

But it could never be enough. Let us hear how much he loved: God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son. He did not give gold; he did not give silver. For as Peter says, We have not been redeemed by corruptible gold and silver [1 Pet 1:18]. He gave his Son, the one who is equal to himself, of the same power, the same majesty, the same wisdom, the same might.

We often seek Jesus in all the wrong places! He is just where I am – always! And he reminds us constantly of our innate holiness.

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
