46 Not that anybody has seen the Father, except him who has his being from God: he has seen the Father.

47 In all truth I tell you, everyone who believes has eternal life.

Drawing Power.

The gospel today is about a type of mysterious energy: a divine one, a terrific one, a mighty, powerful, all-explaining, all-unifying one. It is here even if it does not seem to be here at all. Jesus calls it a drawing power. It is a power, an energy coming from God, attracting all of us, the whole of creation, through Jesus to God and, at the same time, to one another.

Protestants and Catholics, Christians and Hindus, Muslims and Jews, Americans and Russians, Asians and Europeans—aren’t we all communicating and dialoguing more than ever before? There is a power all around us, and it is changing the face of the earth. Jesus not only revealed its nature, but even what its outcome would be: It is the drawing power of our origin, our Father and Mother, attracting us to their home, to his table, to the table and the home we are all coming from. We are surrounded by that power. It is all in and through us. It explains why you, why I, why we, have that deep, deep feeling that the world in which we live is not all there is. That the colors we see are not all the colors there are. That the sounds we hear are not all the music and all the language there is. That there are other recipes for the food we eat. And, even more important, that the relations we have, the ways we touch one another, do not fulfill all our desires and hope. The love we meet—and that love can be so great, so fulfilling and consoling—is a mere beginning, giving us an inkling of the time when God’s drawing power will have brought us together, feasting and celebrating the Kingdom of God, the fullness of life, the power and the glory given to us. Jesus gave
the lead, so let us plug in, becoming all we really are.

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
