I Am . . . I’ve Got You.

Journeying through history as human beings is simply amazing. We explore, discover, learn, enter relationships, sometimes end them, make mistakes, build and break things, hope, laugh, cry . . .

Every day brings endless situations that challenge our humanity but in turn make us more human. As much excitement as these situations bring, we realize that being human is also grueling, sometimes demanding more than what we can possibly give. It is in these precise moments that we realize we cannot do it alone. We thrive more fully when we rely upon fellow sojourners. We need others. We need the friendly hand, the shoulder to cry on, the unassuming presence of someone who tells us, in a sense, “I am . . . I’ve got you.”

I am your mother . . . father . . . spouse . . . sister . . . brother; I’ve got you. I am your friend . . . colleague . . . neighbor . . . mentor; I’ve got you. The words are humbling. More so when we know that this is what God offers to us with merciful love: I am . . . I’ve got you.

As the people of Israel discerned how to confront their difficult situation in Egypt, God told them through Moses, “I am who am.” I bet those words meant the world to them. They inspire peace and reassurance. They were enough to launch the Israelites onto a journey that would define them forever.

We hear similar words from Jesus, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is the Lord telling us in his own way, “I am . . . I’ve got you.”

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Release in us wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement for your work in which we share.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
