Jesus said: I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though that person dies, will live.

19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother.

20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming she went to meet him. Mary remained sitting in the house.

21 Martha said to Jesus, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died,

22 but even now I know that God will grant whatever you ask of him.'

23 Jesus said to her, 'Your brother will rise again.'

24 Martha said, 'I know he will rise again at the resurrection on the last day.'

25 Jesus said: I am the resurrection. Anyone who believes in me, even though that person dies, will live,

26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?

27 'Yes, Lord,' she said, 'I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who was to come into this world.'

She (Martha) knows, simply, that he is the Son of God. She glorifies him already.

Not One Word About Herself.

I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.

[Martha] makes everything objective. She no longer sees herself but lets everything be brought down to the objective mission and glory of the Lord. She says not one word about her participation, not one word about the process of drawing closer, not one word about herself, about her life in the Lord; she knows, simply, that he is the Son of God. She glorifies him already. Her answer is a part of the glorification that is to come upon him through the sickness of her brother.

She leaves open everything that concerns herself and includes everything in him. She pays him in a simple manner the greatest acknowledgment that is possible for her. This is how things are when the “choice” has once been made: one no longer sees oneself, one no longer measures one’s own power, one now lives only in the praise, the reverence and the service of the Lord.

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Release in us wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement for your work in which we share.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
