Matthew 21: 23 - 27.

23 He had gone into the Temple and was teaching, when the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him and said, 'What authority have you for acting like this? And who gave you this authority?'

24 In reply Jesus said to them, 'And I will ask you a question, just one; if you tell me the answer to it, then I will tell you my authority for acting like this.

25 John's baptism: what was its origin, heavenly or human?' And they argued this way among themselves, 'If we say heavenly, he will retort to us, "Then why did you refuse to believe him?";

26 but if we say human, we have the people to fear, for they all hold that John was a prophet.'

27 So their reply to Jesus was, 'We do not know.' And he retorted to them, 'Nor will I tell you my authority for acting like this.'

O God, love, if you now unfolded your wondrous alphabet to me that my heart might enroll itself in the same curriculum as you!

Curriculum of Love.

Teach me your ways, O Lord.

If only you would now open to me the school of chaste cherishing-love that therein I might experience your dearest discipline and through you be allotted a soul not only good but, in truth, both holy and perfect.

O love, dip my senses in the marrow of your charity so that through you I may become a gifted child and you yourself may be, in truth, my Father, teacher, and master. And under your fatherly blessing, let my spirit be wholly purified and refined.

O God, love, if you now unfolded your wondrous alphabet to me that my heart might enroll itself in the same curriculum as you! Tell me now by living experience what the glorious and foremost alpha of your beautiful cherishing-love is like; and do not conceal from me that fruitful beta which fills generations with your imperial wisdom. Diligently and one by one, show me with the finger of your Spirit the individual letters of your charity. Then reaching the very marrow of the foretaste of your gentleness, let me, in truth, with the clean eye of my heart, scrutinize and examine, learn more, know and recognize them as wholly as is lawful in this life.

Teach me through the co-operation of your Spirit the tau of supreme perfection and lead me to the omega of full consummation. In this life make me so perfectly learn more of your scripture, which is full of charity and cherishing-love, that in fulfilling your charity not one iota in me may be idle.

Closing Prayer

All Loving God

Cultivate in us a spirituality that flows out of Marian simplicity, humility and modesty.

Release in us wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement for your work in which we share.

Help us set our gaze on those people and places most in need of Christlife,

Impel us to respond together,

And lead us to be in communion with one another, and with you.

Like Mary, we listen for your invitation,

Like Mary, we set out joyfully and in haste to the hill country of the lives of young people,

Like Mary, we build communities in ways that are Christ-centred.

All Loving God, come and live in our hearts.
